Records at the Alma Police Department
The Alma Police Department serves the city from 102 South Thomas Street. Its Administrative Division processes reports issued to the public, answers department phones during business hours, accepts traffic-citation payments, and supports command staff and investigators. The official page does not publish more exact records-counter hours, a routine police-copy fee, a records email, or a self-service report download.
Call with the event date, location, names, and incident number if known. Ask if the report is approved for release and whether a counter copy can be issued. Do not use the police web or social page to report a crime or ask for emergency service; Alma states that those channels are not monitored for calls for service. Call 911 for an emergency. The same police number is identified as a 24/7 tip line, but a tip line is not a records desk.

This is the best official starting point for a routine Alma police report before using the city clerk's broader form.
Inside Alma's Records Request
The City of Alma's one-page Request for Public Records is the formal fallback when a routine counter copy is not enough. It asks for the requester's name, address, phone, a narrative description of records, a requested availability date, printed name, and signature. It has no preset boxes for offense reports, 911 audio, dispatch entries, body-camera video, photographs, or emails. The form does not publish special rates for certified copies, audio, video, storage media, postage, or electronic files, so ask for an estimate before authorizing a wide request.
Georgia agencies ordinarily must produce open records within three business days or provide a written timetable, estimated cost, and the exemption relied upon. That is a response rule, not a promise that an active investigative file will be released. Request releasable items separately so a dispute over video does not blur the request for an initial incident report.
Booking and Arrest Records in Alma
Alma does not advertise a separate city jail or online arrest blotter. Official GBI releases show people arrested in Alma being booked into Bacon County Jail. Follow a city arrest through separate streams: Alma Police holds its incident and arresting-officer report, Bacon County Jail creates the booking and custody record, and the proper court clerk keeps any charges later filed.
The jail is at 307 South Dixon Street, Alma, GA 31510, with telephone (912) 632-8157. No official public inmate roster was verified, so phone contact and a narrow records request are the defensible fallback. Initial booking allegations may differ from the accusation or indictment later filed. An arrest is not a conviction, and a booking entry does not supply the final disposition.
For an arrest handled by Georgia State Patrol or GBI, start with the agency whose officer created the report. GBI's Douglas Regional Investigative Office may assist Alma Police in a major inquiry, but it is not the normal custodian for every city patrol report. Use that clerk channel for the file itself instead of treating a payment receipt as the whole municipal record.
Alma Ticket Payment Is Not Search
The city's EZ Court Pay link is a payment tool, not proof of a public name-based Alma criminal-case search. Alma says the service accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express, and that I3 Verticals charges a service fee. The city does not publish the fee amount. The live vendor fields were not stable enough to verify citation labels, search options, or record scope.
Have the citation details available before following the payment link. If the citation cannot be located, the hearing has changed, or a certified copy is needed, contact the court clerk. The official payment page visually confirms the limited purpose of the route.
A successful payment action still does not replace the docket, judgment, or clerk-certified case document.
How Alma Records Reach the County
A city event can create several files over time. Alma Police writes the incident or arrest report. Bacon County Jail records intake when the person is booked there. The Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney receives a completed investigative file in a major case and decides what charge to present or file. The county clerk then holds the filed court matter, while justice agencies transmit final disposition data to the Georgia Crime Information Center.

The May 2025 GBI release about an Alma investigation demonstrates this handoff without making the underlying case a model for all events: local and state investigators worked the file, booking occurred at Bacon County Jail, and the completed file was to go to the Waycross Judicial Circuit DA. The public defender is the appointed defense institution for qualifying cases, not a public record-search office.

No current city-level annual crime table was found on Alma Police's site. The official 2019 GBI summary counted 253 index offenses across all Bacon County, including 33 aggravated assaults, 69 burglaries, 135 larceny-thefts, and 10 motor-vehicle thefts. For current Alma counts, request the police department's annual UCR or NIBRS submissions or its monthly reports. Alma Record Access Rules
Alma police and city administrative records are presumptively open unless a specific law permits withholding.
